Fort Stanwix National Monument
Location: Rome, New York
Length of visit: 2 hours
Major draws: Reconstructed fort, best Visitor Center in the NPS
Strenuosity: 1 out of 10
Cost/Fees: Free
Additional considerations: Parking is limited
Description: After FDR protected this very first historic site within the NPS in 1935, Fort Stanwix was finally reconstructed in the 1970s after demolishing the existing buildings. Visitors today will surely agree it was worth the effort, as were the updates in excellent Visitor Center.
