“The Alcan” or Alaska Highway
Location: between Delta Junction, Alaska and Dawson Creek, British Columbia
Length of visit: multiple days
Major draws: Scenic views, roadside wildlife, hot springs
Strenuosity: 0 out of 10
Cost/Fees: Cost of gasoline
Additional considerations: Limited services, wildlife on road, road conditions vary from really good to really bad
Description: This 2,232-mile long highway was hastily constructed in 1942 following Pearl Harbor. Today it is a mostly paved two-lane route through some of the best scenery in North America. We think everyone should do it at least once in their lifetime.
